I greatly shared your view since leaving my comfort zone of SEA to come to a 3rd world country with my family and seeing how young mothers rather believes those formula company than breastfeeding their babies really make me sick, as you have said the condition is not ideal for that sort of feeding for me it is still breastfeeding for my 17th months I dont care what people has to say about me feeding everywhere I go and exposing myself but hey! my baby has a need and it is important that I feed her.
Infact, I have started to encourage women in the postnatal wards to breastfeed their babies here, it is a hard challenge but I always used myself as an example to them.

Hi! I’m from SEAsia and still breastfeeding my 17th month old. I live in the 3rd world and we are the major market of the multinational formula companies. We have various formulas – 0-6mos; 6-12mos; 1-3years; 4-7years. Then another set of formula for pregnant moms, nursing moms, older folks, etc. etc. the list goes on. Thanks for spreading the word. I wrote a paper about the ethics of formula companies promoting their products in third world countries or any country for that matter. It's ridiculous so many women use an expensive sub-standard product Kelly’s last blog post..Wordless Wednesday

I share your views on this entire tragic travesty. I had been updated on some of the data from this study at a Lactation Conference in Denver in October 08. I agree there needs to be much more aggressive educational programs regarding the importance of breastfeeding which targets these impoverished areas. Those industries are blatantly irresponsible and non compliant with the WHO Code. It's very frustrating that they want to glorify bottle feeding and formula to these uneducated societies.
