blog-awardOne of my faithful readers and commenters, Chatter Box Joe, sweetly nominated me for the One Lovely Blog Award. It feels good to be recognized and appreciated for something you are passionate about. It helps make it all worthwhile really, like you really are writing for an audience and not just because you think you have something important to say. So thank you Johanne of Chatter Box Joe. I’m honoured that you consider Breastfeeding Moms Unite! One Lovely Blog.

The premise of this award is to recognize some of the blogs you have recently discovered and/or admire, letting them know how much you enjoy reading them, and passing them on to others as well!

Here are the rules that MUST be followed:

  1. Add the logo to your blog.
  2. Link to the person from whom you received this award
  3. Nominate 7 or more blogs
  4. Leave a message on their blog, letting them know they are “One Lovely Blog!”
I read a lot of blogs. I wasn’t sure how to pick and choose blogs for this award so I thought I would focus on distributing it between some of my favorite lesser known blogs (you know, the ones you see with less comments or a lack of comments from the regular commenters you see around the crunchy, breastfeeding, attachment parenting types of blogs) and a couple of my favorite better known blogs that might actually post about receiving an award.

Regardless of the number of followers any of these bloggers have, they all write about their passions, and they blog from their hearts. Some of them are funny and some of them are serious, but regardless of their style, their content always draws you in. If you’re not already a fan, I hope you will go and check them out. Yep, that means a few more blogs to get sucked into week after week. But I really do think you’ll thank me in the end.

Without further ado, here are some of my favorite “lovely” blogs.

1. Tabulous. Tabatha writes eloquently and with the kind of emotion that makes you actually laugh out loud or cry all over your keyboard.  She is the most honest writer I read. She writes about her personal life, her infant son and husband, the trials and tribulations of being a new mom, her struggles with depression, and some pretty funny, but always awkward stories from her past in her Totally Awkward Tuesday posts.

2. Stork Stories…Birth and Breastfeeding. Melissa is a CLC/ RN/ Newborn nurse with 35 years of experience working with new moms and families. She’s also my “Ask An LC” contributor. She’s the kind of nurse you want or wish you had had at the birth of your child, and a woman who changes many mother’s lives as a Lactation Professional with her gentle, encouraging style of helping. She writes about the changes she has seen take place in the birth and breastfeeding field over the past 35 years. Always eye opening posts.

3. A Piece of My Mind. Maria writes thoughtful posts about breastfeeding, attachment parenting, the environment and politics. There’s always something in her blog that gets me thinking and moves me.

4. The Chronicles of a Nursing Mom. Jenny lives in the Philippines and leads a practically one woman crusade in the fight for breastfeeding support and awareness in a country that has been overtaked by formula companies marketing their wares to new parents. She does an awesome job of providing up-to-date information about breastfeeding and shares the stories about the kinds of things she’s up against.

5. A Very Good Year. Tatiana’s blog is a new blog on my Google Reader. She is another breastfeeding mom, but she blogs about pretty much everything. I really enjoy her writing style and the photo updates of her daughter Maia (my second daughter’s middle name – same spelling!) are so cute! She has inspired me to start journalling my kids’ developmental journies again. I kind of fell off the wagon with that when I started blogging. Oops!

6. Strocel. Amber blogs about her life in the suburbs with her two awesome kids and childhood sweetheart turned hubby. With intelligence, insight and creativity she writes about attachment parenting, breastfeeding, the constant striving towards a greener lifestyle and succeeds in making each post a unique and enjoyable read. Her year long, recently over Maternity Leave Monday posts were a unique niche meme that provided all the information you would ever need if you ever wanted or needed to know about mat leaves practically anywhere in the world.

7. Welcome to my Brain. This alternative minister’s wife is one of the coolest crunchy bloggers I ever wanted to befriend. I don’t comment too much over there. I admit I am a bit of a lurker at this blog, but I love her Magical Milk-Pic-O-The-Week, one of which prompted a popular Monday Musing post Do Public Breastfeeding Moms Nurse Longer? as well as her posts about her adoptions.

8. Mother Mary’s Soapbox is the blog of a “first time homebirth momma, pregnancy activist, political junkie and loudmouth all balled into one.” She is also a breastfeeding mom and reminds me a lot of myself as a brand new mom. In each post I recognize something I wondered about as a newbie, something I wanted to do but couldn’t, questions I had and joys I experienced that I just had to share. Mother Mary is the new mom in all of us attachment parenting types.
