Well, today is my birthday. I’m 36. And in the past year I’ve grown a long, single, dark-coloured whisker. Is this what happens when you get old? Because I don’t like it. Please make it go away. I don’t like that I might have to bleach or pluck something attached to my face. It’s just not me. But yikes! I am not interested in having a moustache either.
But since it’s Foodie Friday today I won’t write anymore about unwanted facial hair. Instead I’ll post something birthday-ish. Something more on the gleeful side. Since I don’t plan on cooking my own dinner tonight or baking my own cake, I will share with you some of what I am cooking and what I’m hoping to stuff my face with later on.
So here’s my birthday menu. These are the things I’m craving today. And when you’re just past being mid-30, you deserve what you crave, right?
Breakfast:
Ridgeways Organic Earl Grey Tea (I can’t live without it)
Whole Grain Pancakes with butter and real maple syrup
For lunch I’ll keep it simple. An old stand-by.
I mean it *is* my birthday. I don’t want to work too hard….
Lunch:
Hearty Tomato Lentil Veggie Soup
For dinner….well that’s really up to my husband and the girls. I could give them a choice of three things I suppose, but what I want most is burritos and I don’t have a recipe up here for burritos. Yet.
Here are their three choices.
Dinner:
Rice and Veggies with Thai Peanut Sauce – we all love this sauce. It’s addicting actually and goes well on just about anything.
Mexican Bean and Rice Casserole – I do have that hankering for Mexican right now….
Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup – there’s just something about this soup that says I love you. Served with some crusty bread and a salad I just might be in heaven. But two soups in one day? Hm.
Dessert:
Homemade Ice Cream Cake – This is what I grew up on for birthday cakes, and there has never been another kind of cake I’ve ever wanted since. But of course I’ll settle. I just wonder what the hubby has in store.
Now what should I do about all those presents on the table? It looks like I’ve been spoiled this year but I don’t feel like I should be opening them without the rest of my family present. (They’re still sleeping.) Okay, just one. Hold on.
Whoo hoo! A new digital camera. 10 pixels as opposed to my old 7 pixels of crap and broken camera. Yay! Hopefully I can start taking some better photos for the blog now.
Thanks hubby!

Happy birthday! Last weekend for my birthday we went out for really really good Italian. But what I wanted most was not food but snuggles from my son – and I got them in plenty.
(As far as the whisker, I have an annoying one at the corner of my mouth. I just trim it with scissors, as long as it’s kept real short it’s not nearly as visible.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you have a wonderful day!
My required b-day food used to be homemade ice cream. Since becoming an adult, I don’t have a required food but have always refused to work or do any “have to’s” on my day.
Happy birthday! On my birthday, it’s all about the cake. Eat some for me.

The food looks great–love your birthday menu choices. As for the whisker, oh honey … wait till you are 56! You’ll be able to braid them. (Just kidding. Mostly.)

Happy Birthday!! Don’t even get me started on facial hair. The worst thing is that one of my chin hairs (yes I have more than one) comes in grey so I can’t even see it. But I can feel it and it drives me insane. Blerg!!!
Happy belated birthday. I hope it was a great one.

You are right – Ridgways Organic Earl Grey Tea is the best. I now live in the US and it is impossible to find here. Good friends send it to me from Vancouver. Thanks for sharing. You know it may be being discontinued – God Forbid. Where do you get it from?
