The following post was written by Virginia who blogs at Rotormommy. If you don’t yet know her, go check her out. She blogs about attempting to balance being pregnant with her second baby, working full time, graduate school and family, while still staying somewhat sane. Since I am not a pumping mom but wanted to be able to provide some information to moms who pump, when I was contacted to do this review I realized I would need some help. She was kind enough to offer to do it for me. Thank you Virginia!

When I saw Melodie of Breastfeeding Mom’s Unite post a tweet about needing a pumping mom to review a new milk storage bag that is biodegradable I jumped at the chance.
I’ve talked on my blog before about my pumping situation. Right now I pump 3 times a day and normally get around 20oz and Dot normally only eats at most 12oz while I’m gone to the office. So basically I end up freezing one bag 4 to 5 days a week of about 8oz each.
After using these bags for a week I really can’t find anything I didn’t like. They have a tamper evident tear off seal, a large opening at the mouth and a double zipper at the top to prevent leaks. The write on tab is quite large which is very nice. One other thing is the texture of the write on tab. I write the date with a permanent marker and the tab seemed to help the ink dry quickly to reduce smearing once in the deep freeze.
The other thing I noticed about the bag was the reinforced bottom. The bottom portion of the bag where it folds in has what looks to be an extra layer of plastic. This is where I have seen leaks in the past during the thawing process.
I did what I thought was a good test of the bag. On Sunday I put about 8oz of milk in the bag and dated it like normal then put it in the deep freezer. On Thursday night I brought it back out and did a quick thaw under cold running water.
The bag shows markers for the amount in it and I purposely filled it fuller than expected to really test it. I am happy to report that we had no leaks at all during the thawing process. The bag held up very well after being in the bottom of my deep freezer for the week.
Overall I was very happy with the bags and the opportunity to review them. The bags worked well and I really had no complaints at all. They can be purchased from Amazon.com and the company is working to get them on store shelves soon.

I would like to try these bags. I don’t pump very often, but I think it would be wise to have some milk stored in case something were to happen to me.

I pump on regular basis because I have an 8 MO and am working. I have to send milk to daycare in bags and I feed so guilty about the plastic. I’d love to find a more eco-friendly option.
I live in the US.
I just tweeted this giveaway and follow you on Twitter.
I have been breastfeeding for just over a year and pumping almost that long (bad latch, thrush, low supply, going back to work). The thing I hate most about the process is throwing away the bags after I defrost the milk. I would love to try a more eco-friendly bag. I am in the US. Thanks!
wow Melodie!! looks great!! i’m down to just 1 pump a day but i would love to win this for my sister who is going back to work on March 8 and just started her nursing career.

As I sit here typing with 1 hand and pumping with the other, I am thinking how convenient these bags look! I have a 3 month old at home and start back to work (very slowly for the first 3 months- one half day a week) as of this morning. My hubby (currently on pat leave) will be bottle feeding during these times and we’d love to keep it as organic as possible!
I’m one of the lucky ones – enough milk to feed the entire neighbourhood! And I’ve been thinking of donating my extra to a friend with twins and breastfeeding challenges or if they are uncomfortable with that (I haven’t figured out the right time to offer) possibly donating an organization in need. So milk storage bags are in need!
I’ve got a 2.5 month old, a 2 year-old & a 5 year-old, yes, I’m busy! I’m trying to make an effort to give each child one-on-one time, hence, milk storage bags would be fabulous. I’m currently using ziplock freezer bags, and they aren’t cutting it! But in my town, there aren’t many other options! Oh the joys of small town Vancouver Island…
I haven’t done any pumping into bags at this point, but in a few months I’m going to be leaving my son with family for 4 days and, although he’ll be almost a year, I’d really prefer that he still has breastmilk to drink, so I need to start pumping extra to save for him. Something that is biodegradable and won’t leak sounds perfect!
I live in the US.
I pump every day at work and end up with tons extra to put in the freezer- I go through bags like nobody’s business! I’d like to try out something more eco-friendly. (I’m in the US)

I’m excited to start my new life as a mom next month. The only thing I have left to buy is a pump, bottles, and … storage bags! I’d like to give these a try, they sound fabulous!
I live in Toronto.
As a vegan, I’m always trying to find eco-friendly ways to live my life. These bags would be great to try out! (I am based in Southern Ontario).
I will be looking for work soon and I will need to build up a supply so my son doesn’t run out. This would help build my supply.

I’m pumping almost exclusively for my daughter, and I’d love to try these bags for the extra milk. I haven’t thawed too much, so I didn’t even know that the bags could leak when they thaw. I hope the ones I’m using now don’t leak!
I’m in the US also.

I’m a new mom and just started to pump as I will be having to go back to work soon. I’m just becoming acquainted with the different storage options and would love to try these out. I live in the USA.
I would love to try this one, sound very good .
I have an 8 month old and I pump and store milk so so that i am able to spend more than a few hours away from the little love. Although I don’t work it is nice to have the flexibility that pumping allows.
I live in the US.
I would love these bags to use with my second arriving in May. I stored up over 1000 ounces when I as bfing my son. I would have loved a bag like this that I didn’t feel guilty throwing away.

I would like to try these bags b/c I would like to find a reasonable alternative to the Lansinoh breast milk storage bags, which I like very much, but my store frequently runs out of b/c they keep a low supply on hand, and the only other bags I’ve found are Gerber, which are thin, and I’ve had leak b/c they only have a single seal at the top.
I’m in Michigan, in the United States!
