@Melissa - I would actually love to go to a different LLL group to see what the differences are. I have been going go the same group for 4 years and it's great, but I have heard about how different they all can be and would like to see for myself how they differ. Maybe I can come to yours! That would be neat hey?

@Wild Mama - A breastfeeding carnival (and there are other kinds too) is when you write a post on a particular subject (designated by the carnival host) along with a bunch of other bloggers and on a certain day you link up to the other members and their carnival posts. It's a good way to get your blog known and especially good for newbies too :)
If you are interested in joining, subscribe to The Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog for dates as to when to send in your post by and what day the actual carnival is.
For a list of blog carnivals and the blogs that host them you can check out a post I did on all the different kinds of carnivals there are out there http://www.breastfeedingmomsunite.com/2009/12/a-list-of-carnivals-for-crunchy-mamas/

I started going to LLL meetings before I had my first baby, and one leader's help was invaluable as I nursed my first child. I had so many problems and she actually came to my house to help one afternoon after I cried into the phone for an hour. She was wonderful. :)

What is a Breastfeeding Carnival? I'm pretty new to blogging and I have no idea of what that really means?

Great suggestion! Makes me want to go find a group. Their website esp. the messageboards are really helpful too, but I'm sure not as much as meeting real moms and LLL leaders in person!

I LOOOOVE my LLL group. I look forward to it all month, and wish we met every week! My leader is amazing, our group varied enough but like minded enough--it's good.

But I have to say, this is not everyone's experience. I'm sure there is nothing to be done, sometimes people mix and sometimes they don't. But my cousin who lives in Victoria has attempted three separate LLL groups and felt judged and/or unsupported and/or looked down upon by either leaders or attendees at ALL THREE. Isn't that awful? My cousin is a babywearing NCBing breastfeeding anytime anywhere, nursed her oldest until 3 1/2 years, still going strong with her youngest at 18 mos...If a group of breastfeeding moms judges HER, I'm mystified.

Her theory is that Victoria is so crunchy LLL has gone extreme to maintain its differentiation from mainstream? Possible, though lots of Island communities are quite crunchy, so who knows.

MY only regret is that I didn't start going to LLL meetings YEARS ago. It's nice to find some moms who are similar to me and supportive of breastfeeding. And I'm so glad I found your blog, too. It helps me a ton to feel like I've networked with other breastfeeding mommas--my community is sorta overrun with materialistic people who don't seem to question much and are certainly not AP oriented, and it drives me nuts. It's hard to feel alone. So my LLL group helps me, as does your blog.

I also wanted to say that my first son had a tongue tie that my Dr refused to snip, so I persevered with sore blistered nips for about a month until my son's frenulum stretched out enough, or he grew enough, or something!! It resolved at about a month. Then I developed overproduction problems, which reoccurred with my third child (second pregnancy/breastfeeding relationship). Overproduction is tough!

Anyways, good post, as usual.
:)
