[...] I’m raising my children vegetarian and at meal time I serve them healthy “from scratch” dishes made from mostly organic whole foods. I provide the children who come to my house for daycare each day the same foods I feed my family. I love being able to provide tasty wholesome foods, and when they clean their plate and ask for more, it fills me with delight. I also like that my daycare parents are supportive of their children being exposed to breastfeeding and learning that it is a healthy and normal way for a baby or toddler to feed. [...]

I am currently pregnant and a chemist, combined I am driving my husband nuts with all of the research into pregnancy, babies, and especially nutrition (I love food, as in finding new things, cooking, and eating real food).

Quick question: How did you maintain an adequate DHA level during your pregnancies and breastfeeding? From my research I have found that vegetarian sources of omega-3's, such as flaxseed, though very healthy, have a very low conversion rate to DHA within the body. How did you do it without seafood sources?

I'm working my way back to vegetarianism quite naturally. Just following my body's lead. Interestingly enough, my child currently appears to not be interested in meat. He's 22 mo. and has never had anything but a taste of chicken. No cow's milk.

I'll have to try the trick of putting beans in sauce. I hadn't thought of that! We put all kinds of veggies in smoothies and pasta sauce. :)

Hi, I am a born vegetarian. My parents started in 1930 to be vegetarian and have raised 7 children. My son and daughter are also raised as vegetarian and adult now. Still vegetarian.

I got here eventually...really interesting, I've been reducing my dairy intake since the new year and now my meat intake. Really interested in it all for health reasons, very informative and interesting post thank you. I will be back to get some of those links too. :0)
