New baby on its way while I’m in labour? No problem, just pass me the flour and let’s make a welcoming cake! And what better way to show love to a new arrival but with the milk that flows from our breasts. [...]

@Melissa - I'm glad the post resonated for you.I found that while I was writing it I wondered if people were going to understand what I was talking about. I have actually been waiting for the "my parents loved me with food and now I'm overweight and/or have an eating disorder" comment, but nothing so far. Yay!

I had to come back and say something else, because I've been thinking of this post nonstop since I read it. I've always thought that loving people with food was a *bad* thing, but your post made me see that clearly, CLEARLY, it is not. I mean, if it were the ONLY way, yeah, it could be unhealthy, and there is that stereotype of the gramma who stuffs and stuffs her loved ones with nary a thought for their health, but I think you've opened some new doors for me here, to see that loving my family through food can be GREAT, and healthy! So, thanks!

It would be really interesting for someone to do a study I vestigatibg a possible link between breastfeeding and body image/eating disorders. I know being a Mom has really improved my body image, as I now thinkif my body as useful, as I think how cool it is that I can feed my son from my breasts or that my love handles make a comfy seat for Baby when he's on my hip!
