Sometimes all a girl needs to feel good about herself is some new clothes. Pregnant moms and nursing moms are often especially vulnerable to feeling a range of emotions about their changing body. Clothing designed with pregnant and nursing moms in mind are made to flatter a range of figures so moms can feel stylish and sexy. To illustrate how seriously MENYKA is about doing this, I rounded up a couple friends to help me with this review.
MENYKA (meaning “nursing mother” in Hebrew) is a maternity and nursing clothing business owned and operated by mom and designer Carmit Kirshenbiom-Kaplan in Israel. MENYKA designs are produced with the dual purpose of providing fashions for the pregnant and nursing mom. However, Carmit’s goal is to make her clothes so stylish, functional and of high quality fabric that they can be worn even beyond the nursing period. I love this!
After doing a photo shoot, with my friend Erin, of the three garments that Carmit sent to me free of charge for the purpose of this review (that’s my disclosure), Erin’s mom popped by and exclaimed how much she loved the designs. So much that she would love to wear them herself! I think MENYKA is definitely on the right track with its designer mom fashions.
The Zip Top Shirt uniquely incorporates two strategically placed zippers for nursing. It can be worn in the early stages of pregnancy. The fabric is soft, draping and figure flattering. I love the zing of purple colour on the bell of the sleeves. This shirt is on the short side so will best suit shorter women. It did not flatter my 6 ft frame as my tummy showed and it is not meant as a half top. It retails for $49 USD.
The Cover Top Shirt is a unique kind of shawl/top with bell sleeves that was designed specifically with the nursing mother in mind. It is meant to be worn over a nursing tank top or other nursing shirt to wrap around the baby to provide privacy while breastfeeding. It’s kind of like a nursing cover and shirt rolled into one. I love dual purpose shirts and the fact that this top can be worn by anyone regardless of whether or not she is nursing. Pregnant? Nursing? Not nursing anymore? This versatile shirt will make a great addition to any woman’s wardrobe. It retails for $49 USD.
The Front Flower Shirt is a nursing and maternity blouse. Taller women will like this because it is longer in the body than the Zip and Cover Top. Shorter women will still like it because it looks gorgeous as a short dress top. It also provides plenty of space for a pregnant belly in the late stages of pregnancy. The picture below is a friend of mine 9 months pregnant. It has a very unique and discreet opening for nursing in the center of the blouse, which disappears into the pleats when you’re not modelling it for the camera. In fact, it actually took some persuading on my part that the nursing hole existed at all! This shirt retails for $69 USD.
To Buy: You can purchase any MENYKA design from their on-line store. Shipping is very reasonably priced and fast! I received my shipment within 5 business days, which is faster than I usually receive mail from the USA.
I highly recommend any of the MENYKA designs. The fabric is oh so soft, comfy and machine washable. Take a look at the MENYKA site for a closer look at any of the above tops and to find something that is right for you!

Those shirts are awesome! So much better than the traditional nursing bra or tank! I honestly wear a nursing tank under everything, i wish i could afford to buy nursing clothes! Anywho, i just thought these were great, i love the first two btw!

I love that Cover Top. What a fabulous idea! It would have come in handy today when I was breastfeeding on the bus and several men were staring at me trying to get my son to respond to them. In the strange men’s defense, I don’t think they knew he was nursing, but I kept arranging my coat a little more snugly to try to keep covered. Oh, well! I wouldn’t mind at all something that looks fashionable but has a dual purpose. Love!
And I just really love when companies take the time to make nursing clothes that don’t have those obvious lines across the middle. What other clothes have that? None, that’s how many.
Here’s one general complaint, though. Why is most nursingwear a combo of maternity and nursing? I haven’t been pregnant for eons now and don’t want to look it. I won a nursing shirt (not from this fine company) that totally billowed out from an Empire waist and made me look like I had a belly. So my question is, did the first and last shirts look acceptable on a non-pregnant woman?

I love the cover top too! What a cool idea. I’m a sucker for anything resembling a sweater, cardigan, etc, so I would be all over that one. Shawl + nursing privacy = ultimate win!

those look awesome!!! I was just telling my hubby the other day that I need some nursing clothes. Right now I just lift my shirt, very clumsily, and hope no one thinks I am about to strip. lol
I will keep these in mind for when we have the money saved to buy some!

@Hobo-Mama I tried on the last top and it fit me great. But purple isn’t a great colour on me. It looked great on my friend Erin. She looked like she could’ve gone dancing it in with a pair of tights. It was Gorgeous with a capital G on her. I do have a photo of her in it, if I can figure out how to post it in the comment section I will or otherwise maybe I will just add it. I ended up using photos of my other friend because I wanted at least one of us models to be pregnant.
wow this is beautiful,to all pregnant mothers, worry not,you have clothes in all sizes. Thanks for the blog.
