Modest Middles are tank tops that cover your middle while allowing easy access to your breasts nursing bra. Of course you’re supposed to wear another top over it, although once you’re done nursing you could use it as a sexy piece of lingerie too!
Basically, Modest Middles are specially made nursing tank tops that allow you to turn any shirt into a nursing shirt. They cover your middle when you pull up the shirt you are wearing over top of it, and it leaves you and your nursling with easy access to your breasts. Yes, you are supposed to wear a nursing bra with it, but except for when I wore one for the sake of this review I have preferred wearing it without one. (It’s summer time and that’s just how I roll folks.)
What I really love about this top.
- The fabric feels great. It’s lightweight and soft. I’m not extra hot when I wear it under another shirt in the hot weather.
- It fits long so it covers my belly really well (I am tall so this is important for me) and it stays put – it doesn’t roll up.
- It has adjustable spaghetti straps.
- I feel sexy in it. Clothes don’t just meet functional needs, sometimes they meet psychological ones too. When you love what you’re wearing, you feel better about yourself.
I was confused about which size to order since I am between sizes at the moment. I also have a long torso and a bit more of a belly than I did a few months ago. On their size chart it says that if you are between sizes you should choose the smaller size since the fabric will stretch to accommodate you. I asked Amy what she thought of my personal predicament and she said she would send me one in each size so I could share my thoughts. Thank you Amy – I so appreciated that!
Another thing about fit. Amy says “One thing to note is that the straps are adjustable. I recommend that you adjust them so that the point at which the strap meets the tank hits about an inch below the top of your armpit (that way the strap lines up with your bra strap). You can also ‘wrap’ your Modest Middle strap around the clasp on you nursing bra to adjust the fit.”
The result: I fit into the smaller size (a medium) but it doesn’t give me as much coverage around the middle because it’s shorter and slightly tighter where the bodice meets the straps. Basically I found myself pulling it down more often. The large fits like a glove. My suggestion is if you are quite sure your body won’t fit into the smaller side of the measurements (i.e. a medium fits chest size 8-12) then go with the large; however, if in doubt, ask Amy.
I highly recommend this product to any breastfeeding mom who wants a unique nursing top that she can both modestly hide her tummy under, as well as feel sexy wearing.
