I was so excited to try out the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions. For months I have been reading about the Tropical Traditions products: Coconut oil, coconut cream, and coconut flour, just to name a few. I’ve been dying to try out one of them for myself. The real food blogs I follow often use coconut oil instead of vegetable oils for cooking and baking purposes. So far I have used it as the oil for frying in a basic vegetarian stir fry, a fruit smoothie and some delicious coconut peach pancakes, which is my new recipe posted at Vegetarian Foodie Fridays.
The oil smells wonderfully coconutty but mildly so. I wondered if the coconut taste and aroma of the oil would come through in the cooking, but so far I haven’t noticed, except in the coconut peach pancakes it was hard to tell since I also used coconut milk and shredded coconut. I could taste a wee bit in the smoothie but it was really nice. The oil was slightly heavier than the olive oil I usually use for frying vegetables, but it wasn’t over kill, like heaps of butter would be. For some recipe ideas Tropical Traditions has a long list that you can find here.
A couple things I really love about this oil is that it is produced in a traditonal manner by hand by families living in the Phillippines. Also, when tested it was shown to have antioxidant levels twice as high as any other coconut oil on the market! If you would like to learn more about Tropical Traditions you can watch the video How We Discovered Virgin Coconut Oil.

I just ordered some deodorant (all other benefits aside, they have FRANKINCENSE! One of my all time fave scents) and teeth cleaner from them! I’ve been getting a different brand of coconut oil for my cooking at our grocery store, but when it’s time to replace, I’m intending to order some from TT. I already use it to cook almost everything, including filling my deep fryer, and have even made chocolate with it. It’s super versatile.

Mel, an interesting thing about coconut oil is that the fats, which are medium chain fatty acids are burned for fuel instead of stored. While it is a wonderful source of saturated fat, it is also a great source of energy that speeds up the metabolism! Thanks for the opportunity to enter this great giveaway. I would really like to try this Coconut oil because recently I have cut all dairy from my diet for my poor one month old (I am exclusively breastfeeding). I love cooking with coconut oil! It’s my new favorite thing. There are times I reach for butter when I don’t want the coconutty taste, but if the flavors are strong enough, I go for coconut oil for the health benefits. I’ve also used it as a teeth wash.
