We moved into our new house this week. All day yesterday I unpacked boxes only to take a break to pull some weeds from the overgrown garden. (I discovered a rosemary plant! Hooray!) As of today I still can’t find our cutlery or my blender or food processor. Good thing we have some old forks and spoons to tide us over until they show up. I’ve been way too busy and/or stressed to cook so I’ve mostly been living off take out pizza, hummus and pita, easy egg and pasta dishes and salads. Creativity will return once I’m feeling more settled. Instead of a recipe, all I can manage today is to leave you with a picture of my new kitchen (taken before we moved in).
Notice the double oven? I’m not sure I’ll use it much, if ever, but I’m grateful for the luxury. However, if I had to choose something I love most about my new kitchen, other than the island, which I’ve never had before, is a beautiful stained glass window over the kitchen table (sorry it’s not in the picture). It’s done in shades of white to look like flowing seaweed. It was made for a friend of ours whose house this was and it’s simply dreamy!
Next week I’ll post a picture of one of the easy, fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants dinners I’ve been making that turned out pretty amazing. I’d post it tonight but of course the cord I need to download photos is still missing. How I love moving!
So tell me, what do you love most about your kitchen?
Linked up Food on Friday at Ann Kroeker because no where else would I likely find a blog to accept a post that’s only kind of about food. Thanks Ann for your ‘almost anything goes’ policy!

Your new kitchen looks lovely. Wishing you much happiness in your new home!!
It is always so exciting to move into a new home even if you can’t find a spoon.
In answer to your question, no I don’t live over there, I’m on the mainland but my sister and her family live in Duncan and my inlaws live in Sidney, Oak Bay and Saltspring.
Just so lovely over there.

Hey, this is my first time participating! I shared a recipe for a cherry-apricot crumble with almonds and crystallized ginger. It’s gluten-free, made with just a bit of honey, and perfect for summer. Thanks for hosting!

Oh, and I love your kitchen! I’m with Alex – almost no counter space in my place. But what I LOVE about my kitchen is the huge window that looks out onto the backyard. This is the first place I’ve lived where my kitchen had a window.

Beautiful kitchen! I’m staying at my mom’s house right now while we look for a home of our own. Once I get my own kitchen you’re totally inspiring me to get cooking and enter your carnival!

Lovely kitchen, Melodie, And congrats on the move. That’s always both exhilarating and exhausting!
This week I’m sharing another installment in my series on children’s menus. The Daily Beast just ranked the 25 worst kids’ menu meals in America. But are there any good meals on kids’ menus? Let’s find out: Send me the children’s menus you see. Will they make the Hall of Shame? Or the Hall of Fame?

I love your new kitchen – I bet you use that double oven more than you think you will. My kitchen is nothing special but it is the heart of our home!

Wow! Congratulation for your new beautiful kitchen. It has a very interesting design. I think I need to remodel mine too. Your kitchen is going to be my inspiration.
Oh ho, what a gorgeous kitchen! So jealous! My kitchen has been driving me nuts, though two things I like about it is 1) the excellent dishwasher and 2) the fact that its pretty long, so it can fit a big table and I can keep the kids art supplies and other stuff at one end. I would LOVE to have two ovens, though — I feel like I am always running out of space or needing to cook two different things at different temps!
Found you via Code Name: Mama. Great post about IDing plants!

Oh, I am soooo jealous.
We have a galley kitchen with no counter or cabinet space and cheap 1980s appliances. I’m floundering here trying to think of something I like about it… All right, here’s one: I like that we have a lot of ways we can improve it! How’s that?
I’m thinking of joining you on one of your Vegetarian Foodie Fridays if I can get some of my recipes written up! I’m glad they don’t have to be vegan, though, because I use cheese like it’s going out of style.
