Last week we were on a family holiday. We spent a week between Whistler, B.C., Vancouver, B.C., and Port Angeles, WA. One thing that stood out for me was how much we all pushed ourselves to experience things outside our comfort zone. I was especially proud of my oldest daughter who rarely takes risks. And yet here she is, on the bunjee trampoline, on a ropes course with her dad (that’s not her dad in the photo by the way), riding a horse for the first time, riding a gondola, and hiking up Hurricane Ridge. I was so proud of her!
And look at me too. I survived being scared of heights by going on the bunjee trampoline (and man did I go high!) and actually doing back flips (great for a 36 year old’s self-esteem by the way), agreeing to ride the gondola (luckily my youngest daughter held my hand for that one), and not having a huge panic attack about the kids falling down a steep mountain side. We survived and we all had so much fun!
What risks have you taken lately?

Visiting with my high school friend CaroLyn from Breeder Brain for the first time in about 15 years. (Not risk taking. Just wanted to share.)

Very cool! We aren’t much for risk taking and that is so not up my alley but I think it is really neat!

That sounds like a fun trip. I laughed at the horse comment. It didn’t occur to me to wonder if I’m setting up my daughter to think horses glitter and have funny pictures on their rump.

The dudes wanted to try that when we were on vacation, but since they wanted $8 a piece I talked them out of it. I know, bad mommy, but seriously, $16 for bungey-ish jumping?! Looks like you guys had fun with it though!

My kids love those trampoline things! We were just at the State Fair and they wanted to do those. We did the Sky Glider which was basically a ski chair lift and it freaked me out completely!! Especially when it stopped! My 8 year old next to me consoled me pretty well though and we got a lot of cool pictures from that high up!

I’m a little slow catching up with last week’s WW but glad to have seen these pictures! I am super impressed at your daughter’s bravery — and yours, for knowing when to hold your 3-year-old’s hand.
I want to go horseback riding again but don’t think Mikko would stand for it, pink horses or no. At least now I know he’ll probably eventually get a little braver!
Hope you can come by Seattle next time when we’re in town, too. Yea!
